Getting the Love You Want™

There’s always more to discover about the person you love.

Getting the Love You Want® is an experiential workshop for couples who want to understand each other more deeply, strengthen their connection, and create more of the relationship they envision together.

Maybe you’re doing well and want to keep growing. Maybe life has gotten so busy that you’ve lost some of your closeness. Or maybe you keep having the same conversations and wonder why nothing seems to change.

Wherever you are in your relationship, there’s room for more understanding, connection, and joy.

Over two days, you’ll have opportunities to:

  • Understand the patterns behind recurring frustrations and disagreements

  • Explore how your individual histories shape the way you love

  • Practice communication skills that help you both feel heard and understood

  • Rediscover appreciation, affection, and playfulness

  • Create a shared vision for the relationship you want to build together

You’ll learn alongside other couples while exploring your relationship through private conversations and guided exercises with your partner.

What to expect

Imagine having dedicated time to focus on each other, with someone guiding you through conversations you may not have known how to begin.

Through brief teachings, demonstrations, personal reflection, and guided exercises, Ciara will introduce you to Imago Relationship Therapy and the Imago Dialogue, a practical way of communicating that makes room for both partners’ experiences.

You’ll explore what happens beneath the surface of conflict, practice listening with curiosity and empathy, and discover ways to bring more intention, care, and joy into everyday life.

Your personal conversations are between you and your partner. You’ll share the learning experience with other couples, but sharing personal details with the larger group is optional.

No previous therapy or Imago experience is needed. This is an educational workshop, not couples therapy, and personal disclosure is not required.

Getting the Love You Want® was developed by Harville Hendrix, PhD, and Helen LaKelly Hunt, PhD, co-creators of Imago Relationship Therapy, and has been experienced by couples around the world.

Registration note: Select one registration per couple.

Light refreshments are also included with this experience.

An invitation to contribute to research on Black relationships

Black relationships deserve to be understood in all their depth and diversity.

Ciara Simonson, a Black woman and PhD candidate at Daybreak University, is researching the impact of Imago workshops on Black couples, with particular attention to Black men’s experiences.

As part of her study, eligible couples may attend Getting the Love You Want® at no cost.

You may qualify if:

  • You and your partner both identify as Black/African American.

  • You are both between 25 and 65 years old.

  • You are in an intimate relationship, married, in a common-law marriage, or have lived together for at least six months.

Participation involves eligibility screening and additional research activities, including questionnaires. Ciara will provide details about the study and what participation involves before you decide.

Interested in learning more?

Email Ciara at ciara.simonson@imagocenterdc.com or fill out the contact form on her bio page to get in touch.
