Got Hope?

According to pastor and theologian John Piper, “The meaning of Christmas is that what is good and precious in your life need never be lost, and what is evil and undesirable in your life can be changed.”  That’s good news for anyone that struggles with finding hope this time of year. It’s also good news for those who wonder–at any time of year–whether change is possible.

In the midst of emotional turmoil, struggles with addiction and grief, how do we know that this isn’t as good as it gets? The message of Christmas gives us a clue. If you believe that God came in the flesh, then it means that God has not kept Himself distant from humanity. He doesn’t stand at a comfortable distance watching with disinterest as people struggle and suffer. Rather, at Christmas, God enters into the messiness of life not to condemn but to bring hope of deliverance and redemption.

Got hope? If not, the source of hope might be closer than you think.
